2011#3: Black maxi dress – Vestido preto comprido

Português
English (uncheck the other box and check this one)

No direito fica assim:

Today you get a picture of me wearing the dress because the pictures of the dress on the dressform came out bad.

This dress was adapted from the BurdaStyle January 2011 model 123, increasing 16 inches to the total length and adding two patch pockets to the front:

The idea was to transform a plain simple pattern into something trendier and edgy. I'll publish I published more outfit pictures at my other blog .

Fabric: black waxed double knit for the body of the dress and regular black double knit for the sleeves and pockets

Details: This is another ultra-easy project (you’ll get these projects from me when I have less time to sew); this material needs no seam treatment, just use the stretch stitch (or very narrow and long zigzag stitch). The neckline finishing is made by turning the SAs in and topstitching, then trimming close to the stretch stitches:

Right side view:

For the pockets I cut a rectangle of the desirable size, adding 5/8 SAs and a little more than an inch on the top to turn to the inside; then I pressed the top allowance down and pinned the pockets in place on the front of the dress (this was done before constructing the dress). Stitched the sides and bottom edges and as a final step, trimmed the SAs close to the stretch stitches:

NOTE: this works because I’m using double knit (which is stable) and a zigzag stitch; doing this using regular jersey would cause the pockets to get ripped out eventually.

Conclusion: I liked it so much that I plan on making this dress again in different colors; don’t miss the complete outfit coming up next published here!

I definitely see that u r loving the minimalism trend. I wouldn't have thought to use this pattern to make a style that would be stylish enough to wear out but here it is. U did it.

Beautiful dress and you look gorgeous in it. Can't say that I have ever seen waxed knit, very interesting fabric which surely takes this garment to a higher level.

Beautiful Tany! You took a very nice dress and by adding pockets and contrasting the sleeves---you took it up a notch:)

Different and edgy. I think you've accomplished what you set out to do - to make the t-shirt dress more modern and sophisticated.

Very sexy Tany . I have seen this fabric and mulled over how it could be used . I like your idea if using it both ways . having shiney slleves would definitely enhance width which I NEVER like to do.
